Global Commercial Vehicle Dynamics Weekly Report: Innovation Breakthroughs and Strategic Layout Go Hand in Hand
At the beginning of May, the enthusiasm of midsummer has already spread, and the global commercial vehicle industry has also witnessed many new developments amid this vitality. This week, the commercial vehicle sector has been brimming with highlights, ranging from the innovative research and development of eco-friendly materials to the significant integration of multinational enterprises, from the upgrading and layout of business in China to the continuous efforts in electric vehicle models.
In the field of environmental protection material application, Scania is embarking on a highly creative exploration.
The enterprise, in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and Swedish companies Reselo and AnVa Polytech, has set its sights on birch bark, which was previously underutilized. As a by-product of the logging industry, birch bark is often directly burned to generate electricity. However, nowadays, through technological transformation, it has been made into new rubber-like materials and has begun to be tested on seals and cup holder inserts. If the test goes smoothly, this environmentally friendly material is expected to be widely applied in the production of more components in the future, opening up a new path for the green development of the commercial vehicle industry.
The logistics industry has witnessed a landmark consolidation. Danish logistics operator DSV has completed the acquisition of DB Schenker.
This deal, which cost over 14 billion euros, has received all necessary approvals. The transaction funds will be used by Deutsche Bahn for railway modernization investment. The newly merged enterprise has an annual revenue of over 42 billion euros, comparable in scale to the GDP of some small European countries. It has a total of nearly 160,000 employees and branches in over 90 countries around the world, leaping to become one of the world's top logistics enterprises.
Scania, which has been deeply rooted in the Chinese market, has made a new move.
On May 6, 2025, Scania China Parts Center officially opened in Prologis Logistics Park, Kunshan, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. The center has achieved a comprehensive upgrade of both software and hardware, integrating the original three parts warehouses into one. It covers an area of 2,711 square meters and has 7,880 storage locations. After integration, the warehouse's production capacity increased by 120%, operational efficiency rose by 50%, and the average operation time for inventory orders was shortened by 1.75 days. This layout not only provides strong support for Scania's after-sales service network in China, enhances the service capabilities of dealers, but also lays a solid foundation for the commissioning of its Rugao industrial production base.

In the wave of electrification, the American brand Peterbilt continues to make efforts. Despite the new US administration's cancellation of multiple subsidies for electric trucks, Peterbilt still launched the 567EV pure electric heavy-duty truck.

This model continues the classic appearance of the diesel version. The independent wheel arch "pod" style headlights, vertical front grille and other signature designs fully display the style of American trucks. It is equipped with a central electric drive system, with approximately 650 horsepower, an integrated 3-speed transmission, and batteries located on both sides of the frame and at the rear of the cab. The maximum range can reach 400 kilometers.
