A Dual Interpretation of Classic Resumption of Production and Benchmark Configurations

Mercedes-benz Axor: The "King's Return" Driven by Demand in the Latin American Market
In the commercial vehicle industry, a model that is officially discontinued often means it has withdrawn from the historical stage, and resuming production is almost an unimaginable thing. However, an announcement made by Mercedes-Benz Brazil yesterday broke this conventional perception - the Axor tractor, which was once positioned for medium-sized cabs and heavy-duty transportation, has officially returned to service. This news has quickly sparked widespread attention and heated discussions within the industry.
Looking back on Axor's "journey of conquest", its fate has been full of ups and downs. In 2013, Axor withdrew from the EU market due to the implementation of the Euro VI emission standards. In 2016, with the shutdown of its factory in Turkey, Axor also bid farewell to the important market of Eurasia. In 2023, the SAN Bernardo du Campo factory in Brazil announced the discontinuation of the Axor. At that time, it seemed that the "career" of this model had come to an end. However, just two years later, the plot took a dramatic turn. Mercedes-benz Brazil confirmed that Axor will resume production at its former factory in Sao Paulo State and has simultaneously completed a new round of "cost reduction and efficiency improvement" upgrades. Industry insiders, after analysis, generally believe that this move indicates that Mercedes-Benz's original plan to completely replace Axor with the base version of Actros has encountered obstacles in the Latin American market. The rigid demand for "new cars, low prices and simple structures" in the Latin American market keeps Axor, this "veteran", in an irreplaceable market position.
Australian DAF XG 660 A-Double: A benchmark for transportation under regulations and operating conditions
Since the DAF XG series officially entered the Australian market this year, many distinctive "Australian-spec real vehicles" have gradually come into people's view. Among them, the DAF XG 660 A-Double combination just delivered to QMR Recyclers, A scrap steel recycling enterprise in Queensland, not only has many highlights in the tractor itself, but also its entire vehicle "train" configuration, under the dual constraints of regulations and working conditions, has become a highly valuable textbook-level case for reference.
This tractor adopts the unique XG 660 specification in the Australian market. Under the Paccar logo, it is actually a complete transplantation of the Cummins X15. Its 660 horsepower and 3,200 N · m power output are specially designed for 97-ton road trains.
At the front of the vehicle, the integrated anti-collision guard bar is particularly eye-catching. To effectively withstand the frontal impact of wild animals such as kangaroos, the bumper is meticulously designed in an arc-shaped shape that seamlessly connects with the smooth front face of the XG. This design not only ensures driving safety but also minimizes wind resistance as much as possible. The other parts of the vehicle body fully demonstrate the ultimate pursuit of "mirror aesthetics", with the wheels, fuel tank, pedals and even the rear treatment housing all polished to the extent that they can be used as mirrors. At present, when the aesthetic trend in the Australian market is still dominated by American-style chrome-plated long-nosed trucks, this high-profile European refined style stands out particularly, showing its sharp edge.
QMR Recyclers has put this XG 660 into operation on a fixed route of 670 kilometers round trip, which runs through the Queensland interior throughout and is specifically dedicated to the scrap steel recycling business. The vehicle section adopts what is locally known as the A-double form, which is A combination of a tractor, a rear-unloading semi-trailer dump truck, Dolly, and a second rear-unloading semi-trailer dump truck. According to the relevant regulations of Queensland, the total weight allowed for this combination is 85 tons and the total length is 35 meters. These parameters precisely meet the design upper limit of the new vehicle. That is to say, every trip of this XG 660 is a practical exercise that pushes all indicators to the limit under the combined effect of multiple factors such as regulations, power, loading capacity and road conditions.
